Isn't it unfair that rationality is futile in an unstable environment?

I'm slowly turning into a full blown Narcissistic Misanthrope. Everyday, I encounter these young immature people, who's ignorance alone makes them a threat to human life. I define Stupidity as "being deliberately ignorant". And there are just too many stupid people in this world. It's almost counterproductive to make any changes towards a progressive future. I'm in America. A place that's as safe as you can technically get (depending on your area). Yet I'm afraid to use public transportation, or visit a fast-food place.
